Domestic Heating
Renewable Heating Solutions
Our dedicated renewables team based in Somerset specialises in the installation, maintenance, and servicing of innovative renewable energy and heating solutions, helping you make your home more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.
Thanks to our long-standing partnerships in the renewables sector, we offer the current government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) to all eligible customers, making sustainable heating more accessible and affordable. The scheme currently offers a contribution of £7500.00 towards the supply and install of qualifying renewable products.
We provide the following solutions

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)
Air source heat pumps harness heat from the air, even in temperatures as low as -15°C, to efficiently warm your home. Think of them like a refrigerator in reverse, extracting heat from the outside and transferring it indoors. While they do require some electricity to operate, they’re incredibly efficient. For every 1 unit of electricity used, they can generate up to 4.35 units of heat, meaning up to 3.35 units of free heat for your home.

Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)
Ground source heat pumps harness the natural warmth stored in the earth to efficiently heat your home. Sealed pipes, installed either horizontally or vertically underground, circulate a glycol solution that absorbs heat as it flows through the system. The pump extracts this heat, enhances it through compression, and delivers it to your home, providing reliable heating and hot water all year round.

Water Source Heat Pumps (WSHPs)
Water source heat pumps extract heat from bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, large ponds or boreholes to efficiently warm your home. A network of submerged pipes, filled with a special working fluid, absorbs heat from the water. The system then compresses this fluid, raising its temperature, and transfers the heat into your home for reliable space heating and hot water.

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery provides a constant supply of fresh, filtered air while efficiently removing stale, moisture-laden air from your home. This process helps maintain a comfortable, condensation-free environment all year round, improving indoor air quality and energy efficiency.
MVHR systems also meet Building Regulations Part F (System Four) for new properties, ensuring compliance with ventilation standards while reducing heat loss and lowering energy costs.

Solar Thermal Installations
Solar Thermal installation is a clean, efficient, and sustainable way to harness the sun’s energy to heat water for your home. A well-designed solar thermal system can provide up to 70% of your annual hot water needs, reducing your reliance on traditional energy sources and lowering your bills.
At Wilkins Plumbing and Heating, we source and install high-quality solar thermal systems across Somerset, helping homeowners embrace renewable energy with expert installation and reliable service.
Whether you're looking to reduce your carbon footprint, lower energy bills or upgrade to a greener heating system, we’re here to help.
